There are so many books and Articles that have been written about dreams. Many have been aimed at trying to unravel the mystery of dreams. These is not what these presentation is going to attempt.
Rather I am going to look at how you can make your dreams come true via dreams.
A lot has been said on the subject of how to become successful but very few speakers and writers tell us on how to become successful through adversity.
I have taken the word Dream as a represent my plan on how to become successful.
The first letter;
D-Desire
you need to have a very strong need to become successful. Something we want very badly forces us to stretch our limits to achieve it.
Dream a dream is what keeps the goal alive. Always dream of what you want to achieve. Is it a new car, a home, school fees for your children or just money in the bank?
Once you decide what it is, go for it.
Dedicate
- Give all your energy and time towards your dream.
- Drive – have the drive to move towards your dream. Remember you are the only one who can put your Car into drive towards your ambition.
- Decide – Make a decision about your dream.
- Be ready to stand by that decision. Are you going to go all the way no matter what obstacles you face? Many times success is itself a decision. You can decide to do something or nothing about your present situation.
Develop – Cultivate the necessary skills and altitude to help in becoming better at doing your tasks.
Skills make working easier and the right attitude keeps are motivated.
Dig, Dance, Delight – To achieve our dreams we have to give it our deepest best. Get it from deep inside. Half sacrifice is never enough. Be happy in whatever you set your mind to do because you know you have a reason, a goal, a dream in doing it.
Do it now, these road you pass it but once.
R – RISE
– Rise up and go get it. The early bird catches the worm. Nothing will happen on its own, someone has to make it happen.
That is when to say; my dream has come true.
Read – Many people who have achieved in life always insist in knowledge. Read books, articles and all you can to assist you do your business better and become a better person. Simply put knowledge is the key to life.
Revision – driving along an unfamiliar highway without stopping to see your location in the map might end you up in a distant land.
While moving towards our dreams, it is advisable to occasionally cool down and review our progress.
These can be done hourly, daily, weekly or monthly. Looking back gives us a chance to see where we come from and where we want to go.
Reward – Ever heard of the Carrot and stick story. Set goals and reward yourself once you achieve them. These can be something simple like a new pair of socks or shoes, a silk tie, massage or dinner in a fine restaurant. You are working hard towards your dream, setting goals and achieving them.
Why not reward yourself a little. Too much work and no play makes jack a dull boy.
Run Running doesn’t mean you have to hobble blindly like someone blindfolded. It means setting of time frame towards achieving your goal. A dream is not something you want to spend all your life chasing. Why not have a time frame; achieve it and….
Relax – Take time out to just cool off and enjoy your journey. Becoming an achiever doesn’t necessarily make you a Mr. Serious. Relax, take it easy and handle it by the soft angle. That’s how to beat it. Easy does it.
E – Effort, It is through hard work that we get a chance to discover ourselves. Dreams come true if we put forth effort sometimes even a little bit extra. Work hard but smart.
Use the S M A R T approach when setting your goals i.e your goals have to be.
S - Specific
M - Measurable
A - Achievable
R - Realistic
T - Time frame
Also being a smart worker means applying the techniques you can learn about improving performance in your field of work Good business and products knowledge, Organization and Management skills etc. Success is the cream of effort. Remember time plus effort is equal to distance.
Enthusiasm – Emerson once said that nothing great was achieved without enthusiasm. Enthusiasm is what sells in the salesman’s world. If you are not excited about your dram how do you expect others to assist you towards achieving it enthusiasm is the bread and butter of success. Be happy in whatever you are doing and floodgates of success affront.
Eliminate – Eliminate the fear of failure and the fear of rejection. Nobody ever knows of what they can achieve until they try it. The fear of failure is the biggest reason why many of our dreams remain an illusion. You cannot fail as a person but your idea might fail. If you try once and fail, get up, dust yourself and try again in a better way. Do you remember the nursery school rhyme of try, try, try again, come again another day.
That little rhyme has always motivated me.
Many sales people (and that includes everybody) never achieve their targets because they are afraid to talk to anyone about it. The fear of rejection makes us keep our dreams and ideas to ourselves. Not everyone will like or support you in what you do but you’ll never find out those who are interested until you talk to them about it.
William Shakespeare said, cowards die many times before their death; The valiant never tastes death but once. Go for it I am on your side.
Enjoy
There are many things you can enjoy alongside your Cocacola. The most important of them is you do not enjoy your work, maybe you are in the wrong profession.
Enjoying your work makes moving towards your dream seem like a paid holiday. Start enjoying your work now and see the difference. Have fun with yourself, your customers and colleagues. Be a happy guy. Did you hear that enthusiasm is contagious. Well it is engage, elevate, eagle.
Engage all your gears and elevate all your hopes towards your dream. Keep focused and do not let off the sight of your dream.
Visualize it, feel it, touch it and see it unfold before your very eyes. Keep it there and then remember of an eagle. An eagle is not born flying but every eagle is born with a potential to fly. Like the eagle unleash the dragon, bring out your potential and fly. When your dream comes true, you ill be like the eagle, so free, and boundless. Conquering the earth and the see.
To quote Keluzy every man is the architect of hs own fortune. Use your potential or loose it.
A- Attitude;
A lot has been said about attitude. Attitude is that drive in you that makes you feel like a winner. It is the giant within you that makes you move to become who you are going to be. It is the expectation of the best from every situation and getting it. The believing in yourself and never believing in defeat the constant energy and faith in your abilities. Always have self-confidence and faith in yourself trusting in God and nothing shall be impossible (Philippians 4:13).
Never, loose your attitude. That should always be rule number one. Maintain your attitude even when things seem to be at the worst.
To do these have a mental picture of what your dream is. Visualize it and let that little picture be embodied in your brain.
Think about it constantly. See yourself there, having made it at last. Write your dream down, look at those notes to remind you of your dream. If it is a house or a car have a picture of that dream house or car, have a picture of that dream house or car and stick it in your bedroom. Look at it every morning and see yourself there. Remove all negative thoughts and close all the backdoors that make you feel like a loser. Remember only you can make the difference. Stand up and be counted. Let God take the front seat and guide you towards your dream. Attitude is everything, thirst is nothing.
Advise
Seeking help and guidance from books, councilors, tapes and experienced people is a good way of learning. Use these knowledge intelligently for the advancement of your dream – Goeth said that to accept good advice is but to increase one’s ability.
Add, Aware, adjust, Aeroplane.
Keep adding a little move effort in your work and ambition’s, a bit of these and a bit of that makes it whole. Be aware of your environment and situation. A small leak can sink a big ship. Take time to mend the little inadequacies you may have. An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Adjust to the present circumstances, following the same path everyday may keep you away from what is waiting to be discovered in the bush. Thinking of an aeroplane brings to mind the border less freedom we get while flying. Think of your dream coming true and you fly to any destination in the world you desire. Is it a holiday to Israel or flying around the world. Think abut the dream the wright brothers had before developing the first aeroplane after watching the birds in sky. They made their dream come true and so can you. Dryden tells us “they conquer who believe they can”.
M – Move
Dreams come true if we only make them happen. In his book As a man thinketh, James Allen tells us that you cannot move within and stand still without. What powerful words. If you do something about your aim rather than sitting there you are definitely in progress because as the chines say a journey of a thousand miles begins with one.
Measure
Take time to measure your progress. Find out how far you have gone, what achievement you have made so far and what needs to be done. By measuring our progress we are able to know where we stand in relation to our goals.
Manual – read your manual everyday at least a chapter. It only gives you invaluable knowledge on your business but it reminds you of products you may be forgetting about.
A manual is a guide. It helps you a long the way. It is your companion, your friend and don’t have a business manual barrow or buy books that will enlighten you about your field of work.
Market – Know your market well and understand it thoroughly. These way you ill learn your clients tastes and preferences. In business market intelligence is an area no serious business person need .
Ignore – Ignore your market at your on peril.
Morale – again do not loose your morale. You are in the drivers seat, maintain the drive to bring your dreams alive, when you feel down, remember your dream, why you stated it and that only you have the power to make it happen.
Meetings – Attend meetings where possible meet your staff (down lines). Find out about them. People want to be treated as part of a team. They want to feel needed and important. Learn to raise their egos. Find out all you can about them and their families. Their likes and dislikes and their points. Be genuinely concerned in their progress. You need them to become somebody.
Help them to grow and you grow too. It is a scratch my back, I scratch your back situation.
Money – Some of our dreams may not be based on Monetary terms. However money is a key factor in bringing our dream alive. Somebody whom I forget once said money is a stupid way of measuring achievement but unfortunately it is the only way. Le us talk about it if we can think but not forcus on the money we can make when we succeed, surely we can work harder, try harder and push a little more.
Money motivates my friend tells me shillings humulikwa na nyingine, translation – a shilling attracts another one. Bringing your dram true can open up lots of opportunities for you. Why not do it?
Motivation – In his book Things fall apart, Chinua Achebe tells us a saying of a Lizard that jumps off the Igoko tree and says it will praise itself even if there’s no one to praise it.
I have always found it very motivating. Thinking of how soft the belly of a lizard is and it manages to safely jump from such a height.
If no one finds it as an achievement well, then the lizad will honour itself. When the chips are down and you feel low, focus on where you have come from. Even when nobody, thinks you will make it, think of the lizard and tell yourself, I can because I have been there and done this. Always remain cheerful and excited about your goals. Remember you cannot motivate others unless you are first motivated keep the spirit. Don’t let go like the duo singens Envogue tells us. You are a winner. Winners never quit, quietness never win, Remaining motivated is like making porridge. It is the stirring that makes it smooth.
S- Finally now that your dream has come true. You have security. If for example it was a hose you wanted, you’ve got it. Your family is secure with a roof over their hears. If it was financial independence, you have it.
You can sit down take it easy and enjoy the fruits of your sacrifice. It is in sacrificing that you have made it therefore be careful not to blow everything you have earned away. You have found a solution to your needs. Your prayer has been answered give thanks and continue with your next goal.
Dreams coming true bring about satisfaction. You went for it gave you all and made it.
Imagine how that will make you feel. That feeling of going all the way and finally doing it. Like been at the top of maintain and seeing all the world. It is a brand new feeling.
In his book “As a man thinketh”, James Allen tells us to ask and receive dream lofty dreams. As you dream so it shall be your vision is the promise of what you shall one day become. Your ideal is the prophecy of what you shall at lost unveil.
The greatest achievement was once a dram. Dreams are the seedlings of reality. Your circumstances cannot stop you. You cannot travel within and stand still without”.
He continues “Strong Pure and happy thoughts build the body diseases and health are rooted in thought. Strength can be developed with effort and practice. Doubt and fear are the greatest enemy of knowledge. You should learn to conquer failure, otherwise the purpose, the energy, the power to do ceases. Recognize failure as the pathway to achievement. As she /he thinks so he/she is, as he/she continues to think so she/he is going to be. Columbus aspired of another world and he found the Americas corpenicus dreamed of a multiplicity of worlds, he found the planets, Buddha dreamed of a spiritual world of stainless beauty and he found it, Mandela dreamed of an apartheid free South Africa and he found it. He who cherishes will one day realize it. To desire is to obtain. To aspire is to achieve. Cherish your visions, your ideals, the beauty that stirs in your hearts your world will be build, as sure as the sun goes to its senith and the moon to its pole hard work is the way to the rainbow.
A chance to discover yourself. Achievement is the crown of effort. Dreams come true. You make it.
